Robotic, clipped, underwater audio is not normal. It is a codec and infrastructure choice. Here is what separates it from clear HD voice.
Everyone has heard it. The transmission comes through and the voice sounds thin, robotic, or like it was recorded in a stairwell. People repeat themselves. Names and numbers get read back twice. Over a shift, that friction adds up.
Bad PTT audio is not an unavoidable trait of the technology. It is the result of specific choices.
Aggressive compression. Many platforms squeeze voice into the smallest possible packet to save bandwidth on shared infrastructure. The math works. The voice does not survive it.
Shared server load. When thousands of accounts share the same servers, audio processing competes for resources. Quality drops exactly when traffic peaks, which is exactly when it matters.
Weak network selection. A device clinging to a fading signal will keep transmitting, just badly. Clipped syllables and dropped words usually mean the device never should have been on that connection.
Clarity is a safety feature. A guard calling in a location, a driver reading back an address, or a crew lead calling for help should not have to say it twice. Clear audio also makes transcripts accurate, which makes searching and reviewing them worth doing.
Take any two candidate systems to your worst environment: a parking garage, a loading dock, a highway at speed, a crowded concourse. Read a string of numbers. Then have someone read them back. The difference is obvious within a minute.
